How fit do I need to be to do this trek?

Annapurna Base Camp is a Grade B or a moderately difficult trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will too, you can.

How long do we walk every day when doing Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

On average, you walk about 4 to 6 hours per day. One or two days can be as less as 3hrs and one or two days can be as long as 7hrs.

What is the highest altitude reached in this trek?

The highest altitude reached is 4190m. This is the elevation of Annapurna Base Camp. ABC is the highest we will climb in this trek.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. Charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. You may have to pay a certain amount for both ($1-$2). Negotiate. Also, a hot water facility could be free at a lower elevation.

Are there ATMs on the way to Annapurna Base Camp?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. The Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. The Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire Guides/trekking agency for Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during the offseason. It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For the Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.

Day 1 :

LEH ARRIVAL AND TRANSFER TO HOTEL

Arrive in Leh: Upon reaching Leh, dedicate your first day to acclimatizing. Given Ladakh's high altitude, it's crucial to rest and let your body adjust. Accommodation: Settle into your hotel or guesthouse in Leh and take the day to relax. Leisurely Evening: If you feel up for it, consider a gentle stroll through Leh Market, but it's advisable to avoid any strenuous activities on your first day.

Day 2 :

LEH SIGHTSEEING

Experience the essence of Leh's renowned tourist attractions in just one day. Start with an early breakfast before heading to the historic Leh Palace, which dates back centuries. Next, embark on a 40-kilometer drive east of Leh to visit Hemis Monastery, known as the wealthiest monastery in all of Ladakh. On your return journey, take a moment to stop at Thiksey Monastery and Shey Palace. Conclude your day at Shanti Stupa, where you can revel in the breathtaking views of Leh town and witness the stunning sunset over the Himalayas.

Day 3 :

SHAM VALLEY TOUR + ALCHI-LIKIR (70 KM’S /3 HOURS DRIVE ONE WAY)

Start your day with an early breakfast before departing for Nimoo to take in the stunning view of the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers, a spot famously referred to as Sangam. Continue your journey to explore the Likir Monastery, one of the most active monasteries in the region. As you approach, you'll be greeted by the recently installed impressive gilded statue of Maitreya. Next, head to the renowned Alchi Monastery, known as Alchi Gonpa, which dates back to the 11th century. On your way back, make stops at Magnetic Hill, Gurudwara Pathar Saheb, and the Hall of Fame. Enjoy an overnight stay and dinner at your hotel in Leh.

Day 4 :

DAY 4: LEH TO NUBRA (130 KM’S/ 5 HOURS DRIVE)

Set off early in the morning for a drive to Nubra Valley, traversing Khardungla, renowned as the highest motorable pass globally at an elevation of 18,380 feet. Arrive in Nubra Valley by afternoon to soak in the breathtaking views of Shayok Valley. Be sure to experience the Desert Safari ride on the iconic Himalayan Double-hump Camel in Hunder. Spend the night in Nubra Valley.

Day 5 :

NUBRA-PANGONG (160 KM’S/ 7 HOURS)

Start your day with an early breakfast before heading to the monastery in Diskit. Close to the monastery, you will encounter the impressive statue of the future Buddha, known as Gyalwan Chamba. Following this, we will drive towards the eastern border of Ladakh, traversing the scenic Shayok Valley. We should arrive at Pangong by the afternoon. This stunning lake stretches approximately 4-5 kilometers wide and over 135 kilometers long, with about two-thirds of it lying beyond the Indo-China border. Enjoy an overnight stay at a camp that offers breathtaking views of the lake.

Day 6 :

PANGONG TO LEH (135 KM’S/ 5 HOURS)

Rise early to witness the breathtaking sunrise at Pangong Lake. After savoring breakfast along the shores, head to the nearby village to discover the local way of life. You'll return to Leh by late afternoon, leaving the rest of the day free for exploring the local market and shopping.

Day 7 :

AIRPORT DROP

Departure to Leh airport in the early morning.
