Tsomoriri Lake is one of the most surreal destinations to discover in Ladakh. Situated on the Changthang plateau at an altitude of approximately 4,000 meters, this stunning lake stretches about 19 kilometers in length and reaches widths of up to 8 kilometers. Encircled by barren hills topped with snow, this area is home to breathtaking migratory birds and other rare wildlife, making the scenery simply mesmerizing.
This beautiful blue-hued lake is now part of the wetland reserve designated as a Ramsar site, known as the Tsomoriri Wetland Conservation Reserve, which holds the distinction of being the highest Ramsar site in the world. Unlike the more famous Pangong Lake, Tsomoriri remains lesser-known, resulting in fewer crowds. Here, you can find a diverse range of species, including the bar-headed goose, brown-headed gull, great crested grebe, and large populations of Himalayan hares.
Surrounded by towering peaks, Tsomoriri Lake is relatively isolated from the outside world, creating a peaceful and picturesque environment for visitors to enjoy.
